Things new car owners enjoy — a gleaming exterior, pristine seats, and the odd yet appealing new car smell. You can get the first two features with a little sprucing up but recreating the new car smell we love is a little harder, so read on for a quick guide on how to make your car smell brand new again.
Clean The Seats
The first step to getting the new car smell is eliminating other smells, so cleaning your seats is a good place to begin. Start by vacuuming the seats to rid your car of any dirt, pet dander, or crumbs from your latest fast food run. Then shampoo the seats with a homemade cleaning solution or a commercial one. Whichever route you choose, make sure the ingredients are suitable for the material your upholstery is made of.
Wash The Floor Mats
If there is any place in your vehicle that collects more dirt and grime than the seats it’s your floor mats. Your floor mats collect everything you step in and can give your car a musty smell. Combat it by tossing them in the washing machine with warm water and detergent. Afterward, let them air dry in direct sunlight. You can also leave your doors open for roughly 15 minutes to let in some fresh air.
DIY New Car Air Freshener
Now that you have properly removed all other odors in your car, it’s time to add the new car smell to the interior. One way to do that is to create a DIY air freshener by combining one part vinegar with two parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the resulting solution onto the seats and let it sit for 30 minutes. The water and vinegar will eliminate odors and rehydrate the interior.
Use A Commercial Air Freshener
You can also purchase an air freshener. There are plenty of new-car scented air fresheners and sprays that you can use to make your vehicle smell like it just rolled off the assembly line.
