Owning your own vehicle is such a cool thing. You have the ability to just get up and go anywhere, whenever you want. It makes going to work, meetings, and appointments extremely convenient. Although, none of those perks can apply if the thing won’t even start. Don’t worry, the pros at Cavender Ford are here to walk you through a list of things you can do if you find yourself in a car that won’t seem to start. You can identify the problem in no time, and be on your way.
If No Lights Come On
If you go to start your car and no lights come on, chances are you’ve got a dead battery. This is pretty common and can be caused by a multitude of things, such as leaving a light on overnight. This is when you’ll need to phone a friend and connect your jumper cables to their battery. In minutes you’ll be good as new. A few tips here: keep your car running for a while after it’s been jumped to give it some more life; also, if you don’t already carry around jumper cables, you should add them to your trunk for situations like this one.
Another cause for this could be a battery connection issue. Go straight to the source, and check the cable connections to the battery. Give them a twist, and if they move with you, they’re loose. To fix this, just remove them and give them a good wipe down. Reconnect them with the help of a wrench to tighten it, and you’re good to go.
If No Sound Comes On
If you see lights but hear no sounds, there are a few things that might need fixing. For starters, check to make sure that your car is in park. If it’s in the wrong gear, your car won’t start properly. Next, it might be a problem with your key fob. You may not know this, but the battery inside of a key fob can die. This is another wonderful thing to have on hand if it applies to you. The last thing you want is for your fob battery to die when it’s cold, dark, or raining.

The main issues here to look for are low fuel or a weak battery. Inspect both your dashboard display and your battery. If it’s the latter, you’ll need to jump-start the battery. If it’s low fuel, you’ll need to reach out to a fuel delivery service to assist you.
Hopefully these tips give you some useful knowledge for the future. If the problem is something bigger, give Cavender Ford a call and our technicians will take a look!
