Looking for an event that is fun and special to attend this Mother’s Day? Come check out the Gedenke German Festival! This event is a standing tradition and only improving with age. The festivities are Thursday through Saturday on May 11th, 12th, and 13th of this year. Each day is filled with activities and celebrations to enjoy with your family and friends in Weimar. The Gedenke festival is held every Mother’s Day weekend and offers free admission as well as parking, so there is no excuse not to be a part of the festivities this year. Weimar 150th Celebration Kickoff
The kickoff for the festival begins on Thursday, May 11th. From 5 pm to 8 pm, the Heritage Society Museum of Weimar is hosting a special commemoration to honor the city’s 150th year. This celebration is a simple “come-and-go” event. As the whole Gedenke festival commemorates the history of Weimar, what better way is there to begin the Gedenke festivities than by viewing the exhibits at the museum. The Heritage Society Museum of Weimar will be providing visitors with charcuterie and beverages.
Weimar Rotary Club Gedenke 5k
If you would like to attend an event during the Gedenke Festival that is a little more active, than you can lace up your running shoes for the Weimar Rotary Club Gedenke 5k. This race will take place on the morning of Saturday, May 13th at 7:30 am. Along with the 5k run, there is also a 1 Mile Fun Run for kids 12 and under.

Other Events
There are many other events to look forward to during Gedenke Festival weekend. There will be live music played throughout Friday evening and all day Saturday. Automotive lovers will enjoy the Car & Tractor Show that will be held on Saturday. Foodies will love participating in as well as watching the BBQ Cookoff and Salsa Competition. There will also be plenty of vendors around during the festival for you to grab a snack or treat. Of course, you will not want to miss the parade that takes place on Saturday or pass up any of the games or carnival rides offered during the festival.
The word ‘Gedenke’ means remember in German. No matter which festivities you participate in, you and your family are certain to remember having a grand time at the Gedenke Festival as Weimar and its residents commemorate the city’s proud history.
